O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me…

There’s just something special about God’s Word. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, His encouragement to us is always timely, always soul-nourishing, always good, and always points us to Jesus Christ.

I don’t know about you, but I could use a little encouragement. As good as His Words are, there’s just something bent about the world, isn’t there? We go on with our day, enlivened after something good happens to us… only to have some worrisome thought, some painful trepidation, stick its long, bony finger down our throats to kill our joy.

But the joy-killers haven’t ever been strong enough to wrangle God’s Word from Him. No, His Words are His own. They mean something to Him. He uses them to give life to us.

On an easy day, it doesn’t take much to crush me. It takes even less to bring me back up. Just a drop of God is enough to keep me going. Just one whisper from His Spirit, into my soul, and I come alive again.

God puts his fingers on my throat and warms me with encouragement. It’s not beneficial to dwell on the bad things, to ruminate on them and harbor them in my soul and try, vainly, to own them. As if I could solve a dilemma? As if I could make a lightbulb that never popped?

But there’s energy in keeping my eyes on Jesus. True energy. I am a turnsole, my heart following the Light, wherever He leads me to go.
