It takes courage to be good. To choose goodness. To do what is right even when it is hard. The bravest warrior is the one who has become utterly, completely vulnerable to goodness.
But there is only cowardice in bullying, in terror. Those ones are not strong, though they project might. Though they swarm and pounce and devour, they have no courage to face candlelight.
Dare we choose to be brave? Truly brave?
To face the flame?
We dare.
I want to choose goodness. I want to hope that the candle that reveals me is the same compass leading me out of the darkness.
It’s tempting to want to snuff out the flame with my fingertips. But the call of courage is stronger. I want to live in the light. Where all the brave and vulnerable children go.
