I think in this war-torn world where there is so much fear and violence the best thing to hope in is what seems impossible to see come true. If I am an athlete, and if I am playing on a team in a season that is decimating us, completely destroying our chance at making the playoffs, then I am reminded that our team is still in-season, and that there are still games to be played. And in that vein, let us restructure and retool and reset our mindset. For better or worse, we often hit what we’re aiming at. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to hope in goodness. To believe that peace is possible, across the world. To melt our spears back into pruning hooks. It seems impossible, but if we make it our goal, with the Good Lord’s help, that hope is not just an impossible hope anymore, but an active, visceral dream.
