On most days I suffer from some kind of hurt. Whether I hurt physically, emotionally, spiritually or mentally, with each pang I am tempted to give in and quit. But I refuse to.
No good thing waiting for us in the near horizon can be had if we sit down and resign ourselves to defeat.
It’s harder, I know, when we get knocked down. And the harm of the world is after us, isn’t it? We who desire to be courageous and to do what is right have a target on our backs. We get knocked down savagely, And we become numb to the beauties of life. We simply stop seeing them anymore, as if we were in foreign bodies on a strange shore.
Some of us have been knocked down so hard and so often, so unendingly, that our form has been smashed into the form of the hammer that hates us. What’s the use in going on, when in half a dozen steps, I’m going to be laid out by another bully?
Character is forged in the tender courage of a bruised soul. The drive to fight forms when that soul gives in – not to a bully, but in authenticity to the truth of life.
The truth of life is that Jesus is a just and loving God. He is wise, and all-knowing, and can be trusted with all of life’s problems, dilemmas, hurts, pangs, challenges. And so on.
He can also be trusted with our babies, our hopes, our dreams. Really, there’s nothing in life we can’t give to God.
With Him in our corner, let’s be brave and take one more step today.
